Chapter 13. Case “A” (11)

As I introduced already, geek is a laidback and impolite adolescent male identity who states that he is 15 years old. He tells cynical jokes frequently and addresses me and Dr. B on equal terms. Interestingly, amnesic barrier between A and geek was initially there, but was gradually reduced, and now they were sharing most memories and personal information of A’s life. It seemed that A was listening most of our conversation in the sessions while geek talked. After I gave up addressing A regularly in our sessions, I was wondering if technically it was the right thing to talk only to geek while still attempting to treat her DID.
Toward the end of the year, suddenly C needed to relocate for a new position in his work, and they had to move to a place three-hour-car ride away from their original home. The arrangement was then made so A’s visit be only once every month or two while her antidepressant was carefully tapered off.

Dr. B and I learned that A got pregnant. A was very pleased with it, but also had a strong reservation about letting her parents know about it. A wondered if her mother would be pleased with A’s becoming a mother. From this period on, A started to appear often in our sessions and expressed her concerns about becoming a mother. She is concerned about her capacity to take care of her baby while still switching might be occurring. (Of course, it was my and Dr. B’s concern, but we were somehow confident that A might do it well.) Geek still showed up frequently, talking stanoffishly about A’s pregnancy.
As A’s pregnancy advanced, she got a little more dependent on C emotionally and also in getting around, and we decided to have a breaktime until her baby is born.

A gave birth to a healthy baby boy and then A and C’s infrequent visit to us resumed. A looked really enjoying having a baby and I realized that her talk was completely that of A while geek never showed up. It was very reassuring to see the way A handled her son, which was very caring and affectionate. A states she never gets irritable while spending entire day time with her son. Occasionally, A’s child identity shows up and also take care of her “little daughter” and even changed his diaper while in difficulty she “asked A for help” immediately.
C is also showing a good fatherhood, trying to return from work as early as possible, enjoying bathing his son.
It was three months after she gave birth to her baby that she finally let her mother know that she now have a baby. Totally unexpectedly to A, her parents sent her a mail expressing their joy in having a grandson and sent them some gift. A reported that surprise gift in tears when she visited us . A stated that for the first time she felt that she is OK to have been born to this world.
