Chapter 13. Case “A” (9)

On the other hand, A distanced herself from her parents more and more, and there is scarcely ever
Communication between them. A stated that is the least stressful way of keeping relationship with her parents. A is doing well with C, and they are now practically living together. During weekends, A does all the house work for C while during weekdays, she is becoming one of the supervisory staff who is really commended for her good skills of treating customers. Her depressive symptoms decreased and I began reducing the does of antidepressants. However, sometimes A felt lonely and abandoned, especially when C is late for a job-related meeting where A knows some young female staff were involved. She then got anxious and switched into the child identity and called him.
In my relationship with A, C routinely came in with her. One of the identities that showed up quite often in this period was so-called “geek,” an adolescent boy with an overly friendly and careless talk. Geek started to appear only occasionally since several months ago, but now is a frequent visitor in our session. He can interact even more playfully with C, calling him “flirt” or “an womanizer”.

A is still doing well in her work. She is now one of the staffs who take supervisory positions. Even in that position, however, she was sometimes stressed out and got into a dissociative spell. This is because the more she is trusted, the busier she becomes. She sometimes found herself during the lunch break being a child doodling in her memo pad.
