Chapter 12. Various Therapeutic Techniques (10)

To conclude, modern clinicians of dissociative disorder are not necessarily regarding mapping as one of the indispensable therapeutic techniques for DID. This reflects general trend in clinicians’ attempt to minimize excessive reification of different identities as real agencies. However, sometimes it is still useful for clinicians to keep a list of identities handy while treating DID patients. It would help clinicians better prepare for the patient’s sudden and unexpected switching during the session. Therefore, it might be still reasonable to request patients to provide the list of identities to the best of their knowledge in the early part of the treatment process. It also gives clinicians better ideas about how much an identity are aware of each other (and of course, that depends on who prepares the list).
