Prologue (2)

However, patients with DID have minds which are beyond our common belief and imagination. They DO possess different parts of mind, many of them being foreign and unknown to themselves. All we as their therapists can do is to accept that fact and go from there. They cannot move forward without it. As soon as they learn that we do not accept different parts of themselves, they class us as “those who do not understand us”and close their mind to us.

Different personalities interact with each other in various ways. Each of them has different sentivity and way of thinking. Some of their interactions are very curious and imaginative.

Miss. A is a thiry-some yea-old carrier woman. She is a bit naïve in her social relationship. She tends to develop a dependent relationship with men who are superficially and readily nice to her. She establishes a relational pattern of casually trusting a man who takes advantage of her and ends up abandoning her. One of her child personality, B, is always concerned about Miss. A each time she launches a new relationship.
“She is always duped by men. Now one of her bosses is being nice to her and she feels good about it, but I never know what will turn out”.
A bit moved by a remark of this young girl B, I said “but it is amazing what you’re talking about. How can you as a little girl understand her situation!!”
